Pheasant Wings for Training

Started On 9/9/2009
I just received my pheasant wings to get my weim back into the mood for the upcoming bird season, while we don't have a lot of free ranging birds here in southern Ohio I really enjoy as well as my dog to get out and try and find a couple. I ordered the wings from Cabella's, and the minute I opened the package she was all over them. I just got done about a 45 minute session with her, and she loves them. I have not put them on a dummy yet, for I am not training her to retrieve but for pointing.

Anyone else out there use wings for training purposes? This is my first time using them, I had relied on liquid scent before, but this seems to be so much better. Any recommendations out there on different methods for using the wings with the dog?

We use the real thing, all the birds we get we freeze the wings. use them as is (frozen/part thawed). We drag them down the lanes and through the brush and plant them in the woods, break out the dogs and let them sniff them out. It works for us.
