layer of frozen snow

Started On 12/8/2010
It snowed a couple inches here about 4 days ago. The temperature hasn't been above 25 since then, so the snow turned into a layer of frozen solid snow that crunches really loud when walked on. It had been really windy these past couple days and it dropped to 5-10 mph this morning so I gave it a try but didn't see a thing. I spooked one that was bedded down on my way into the woods at 6 a.m. but that was the only activity to speak of. You guys think the fact that the snow was so loud to walk on would cause deer to bed down so nothing would hear them moving around?
